You can do anything. Do you know how many options that gives you?
Ahem, allow me.
Learn a language, read the classics, write a book, run a marathon, travel, try new restaurants, see new movies, learn an instrument, read the paper, balance your checkbook, open a bar, get a massage, take a nap, plan a trip, catch up with your friends, go to the beach, swim, run, fuck, fight, dance, cuss, spit, laugh, tell a joke, change your career, change your hair, change your diet, change your life, go to a rock show, start a band, tap dance, juggle, skydive, kick a bad habit, start a good one, etc.
Your mind bubbles like a fast-frying egg on a summer day. THE PRESSURE! It's too much, can't take it. All those options have made you capable of only one thing: a good ol' fashioned fetal and rock session.
Backfire.
Being overwhelmed is easy. Pushing past it is not. The world as your oyster is, in a word, exhausting. Weighing all those possibilities often makes me wonder how I get out of bed in the morning...just thinking about it makes me tired.
Recently, I've returned to the workforce and have been making excuses as to why I can't do all the things I want to do...(too busy, too tired, too stressed, too forgetful, can't focus, can't finish, can't get started, blaaaaah, blah, blah, blah, blah).
Guess who else was at that pity party with me?
Right.
No one.
Nobody wants to hear Janey Complainey sing karaoke at her own pity party.
Rather than closing my eyes and reminiscing about the safety of the womb, I've decided to calm the fuck down. Yes, the possibilities are limitless (and that's great and all) but, most of us do not live in a gatorade commercial. There are days when you dominate and days you suck at life. You have to at least try though.
Accept that life is a series of victories and defeats or in the words of The Dude: "Strikes and gutters, man." Nobody has it all, all the time. When you can dominate, do. When you can't, take a nap. Your brain will thank you for it.
